Point of View: The Vietcong and North Vietnamese Soldier
The Vietcong and North Vietnamese soldier also had to go through many challenges during the Vietnam War. These soldier were usually poorly equipped, and had little resources, at least compared to their American counterparts (Vietnam War soldiers. (n.d.). Conflict in Vietnam). But, the Vietnamese had some advantages over their enemy. These advantages included the knowledge of the terrain, the language, and the people (Vietnam War soldiers. (n.d.). Conflict in Vietnam). The North Vietnamese army and the Vietcong also had eight years of combat experience (Vietnam War soldiers. (n.d.). Conflict in Vietnam). They acquired this experience in the First Indochina War. They also benefitted from fighting the French since the NVA and the Vietcong had experience fighting a western power (Vietnam War soldiers. (n.d.). Conflict in Vietnam). The NVA and the Vietcong both relied on guerrilla warfare, which is a strategy in which they would ambush their enemy. The NVA and the Vietcong would use Chinese and Soviet weapons, but relied mostly on homemade explosives and boobytraps.
