Point of View: The American Soldier
The American soldiers point of view towards the Vietnam War was very negative. Even though they were better equipped and better trained than their NVA and Vietcong counterpart, the U.S. combat soldier had no purpose in fighting in the war. Most of these soldiers did not know why they were there, what they were fighting for. As the war grew more unpopular back in the United States, U.S. combat troops had fewer reasons to put themselves in danger. Because of the decrease in popularity of the war in the United States, many soldiers would fall into drug abuse and the “fragging” of officers. Fragging was the act of murdering a military member, commonly with a fragmentation grenade. The reasons soldiers had to frag their CO (Commanding Officer) was because again, they were not willing to put themselves in danger due to the unpopularity of the war, but soldiers had other reasons to frag their CO (Vietnam War soldiers. (n.d.). Conflict in Vietnam).
