My Fire Project Issue is not only a local or a national phenomenon, but also a global phenomenon. Not only were people affected by it in one, but in multiple. The Vietnam War had an impact on the American people as it did for the people in Vietnam. People in the U.S. viewed the war as an unnecessary war for the United States to get involved it. The war was also viewed as an unjust conflict that affected the innocent in the country. There would be protests in the United States that claimed that the soldiers sent to protect those people weren't doing their job, since troopers had no idea how to tell Vietcong sympathizers from the civilians. About 450,000 civilians were killed (Cost of the Vietnam War. (n.d.). VAORRC – Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign). This made the Vietnam War a social issue.
Protests not only occurred in the United States, but also around the world. Australia and England also held anti-Vietnam protests during the war. These protest were mainly against conscription (Conscription. (n.d.). Australia and the Vietnam War).
The Vietnam War was also an economic issue. In total, the war cost the United States $168.1 billion, or $168,000 to kill each enemy (Cost of the Vietnam War. (n.d.). VAORRC – Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign). This amount of spending put the economy of the United States to its limits. Money wasn't the only issue. During the war, the United States used 13.7 billions of gallons of fuel from 1966 to 1972 (Cost of the Vietnam War. (n.d.). VAORRC – Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign). This amount of fuel is enough to heat 10,800,000 homes for an entire year (Cost of the Vietnam War. (n.d.). VAORRC – Vietnam Agent Orange Relief & Responsibility Campaign).
